The Seabed 2030 project is mapping the ocean floor to help us better understand the oceans so we can manage them sustainably.
The Nippon Foundation-GEBCO Seabed 2030 collaboration aims to map the whole ocean floor within the next decade, which will help us better understand the oceans so we can manage them sustainably.
Thousands of metres of water hide the seabed from the satellites we use to map the earth’s surface. To overcome this unique challenge, the Seabed 2030 project crowdsources data collection by enlisting the support of commercial boats, governments and research institutes, and supporting the development of autonomous vehicles that scan the ocean depths.
Seabed 2030 has already mapped 19% of the ocean floor. You can join the adventure of discovery as researchers fill in the remaining pieces of the puzzle.
